We have the long weekend as we move through September, School is closed on Monday with all returning in Leith uniform ready to learn on Tuesday morning at 8.30am.

Key points and news below;

S1 Lunchtime – Please see a separate letter emailed to S1 Families from the Head Teacher regarding breaks and lunches from next week and moving forward.

Uniform – Our uniform is designed to be simple, accessible and proportionate for Families, it is on our website here Uniform at Leith – (leithacademy.uk) . See below an update I received from Scottish Govt;

Rights Respecting Schools visit – On Tuesday we welcome the national accreditation team who will review the naturally occurring work we aim to do each day linked to rights, our values (RESPECT DIVERSITY HONESTY and FAIRNESS) and the vision we have for all young people at Leith (SUCCESS IN LEARNING FOR ALL). Thanks to colleagues for leading this and all involved on Tuesday, including Parents, Pupils and Staff.

Pupil Equity Fund (PEF) – Message from Ms Grace Salmond in PE – We are currently looking for donations to support pupils who don’t have access to kit and sports equipment. The PE Department are looking for donations of pre-loved boots (football/rugby/astro), shin guards and washable water bottles that are no longer being used. With your donations, we hope to break barriers many face and help make PE more accessible.  Anything being donated please hand into the PE department.  All donations will be greatly appreciated by the department.

Pupil Council – Our annual election has now taken place and our Co-Chairs will be Aidan Morrice and Foggo Shepherd of S5. Well done to them both as we continue to work with our Pupil voice groups to support learning for all.

Edinburgh Sports Ambassadors – Well done to Amy and Louis who represented Leith Academy at the City wide event linked to maximising participation of young people in activities that support their Health & Well Being. See picture.

Finance sector trips with a Girls focus – Update from Deena Mansour, Business Studies – Our Seniors went to Aegon and our S3s went to BlackRock. The girls involved all did SO well. They took part in several activities including making investment predictions, choosing the correct job role in a company to help with different investment scenarios, pitching on why to invest in a chosen product, and discussions with employees of both businesses on what their jobs were like. The event runs over 10 weeks and is to encourage more girls to consider investment management careers (of which there are many) in one of the most male dominated industries. Well done to all and we hope it inspired some next steps! Pictures attached.

The long weekend has arrived and we hope you have a nice weekend. We will see all youngsters on Tuesday morning 8.30am sharp in Leith Academy uniform ready to learn.
