Another busy week as we enter the final week of November.
Some key points below to be aware of;
Community awareness – On Wednesday this week we were made aware of a video online showing images of Tesco car park at around 4pm on Tuesday where youths, not from Leith Academy, were in the vicinity of our School at Tesco car park area causing significant distress to an individual from Leith. No one was hurt but the footage appeared to show serious behaviour.
When events like this occur there are council protocols schools follow involving Police Scotland and Senior colleagues from Edinburgh Council. These steps were taken yesterday (Thurs) and continued today; the event is a live Police investigation.
This event did not happen in School but it was in our local community and causes distress understandably. We continue to have high visibility across the School day and make use of our security entrance system in order to keep School safe for our users. Our week has been a positive one within Leith Academy as we continue our work of supporting pupils in their learning.
We continue to work with our School Police link officer and the family(s) involved on a daily basis and will continue to monitor the situation into next week.
Thank you for the support you provide your youngsters in discussing relevant themes. If you have any relevant information please contact Police Scotland on 101 and as ever our Admin@leith.edin.sch.uk is always available.
S4,5,6 Assessments / Prelims β Assemblies were held today (Fri) with S4,5,6. Pupils now have their timetables. Parents will be emailed the powerpoint, timetable and other relevant information to support. This is an important time for our Seniors and they must apply themselves if they are to gain successful outcomes; be sure to respect the assessments.
Supporting Families at Christmas β Please see a message from Ms Sutherland in English Deptβ¦.
Leith Supporting Leith – Here at Leith Academy, we want to support our whole community, especially as the cost of living is negatively impacting a number of our families. We aim to run a Giveaway 1-2 pm, on Friday 6th December. If you are in a position to help, please hand in any unwanted gift sets, preloved toys and books and anything that can be re-gifted into the school office before Thursday 5th December. And, if you would benefit from some FREE TOYS and GIFTS, to help with Christmas, please join us on Friday 6th December 1-2pm. Everything is FREE!
Meantime, a big thank you to all staff and parents, for your generous donations so far. A special thank you also, to for the anonymous Amazon donation! What a lovely thing to do.
Finally, this is not all we do to support our young people in Leith. The breakfast club (free food for any child who needs it) continues to thrive. Thanks to Sheila and the staff who support her.
Another thank you should also go out to our neighbours, The Twelve Triangles, who have been incredible in supporting our poverty/zero waste fridge (offering free food to any child who needs it). Their continuing donations of pastries, croissants and bread has been invaluable at a time when families (especially children) are struggling to make ends meet. So, if you’re in The Twelve Triangles, please say a thank you from us!
Christmas Show 18th Dec – The date is fast approaching as we begin the preparations for this brilliant annual event. OUR PARENT COUNCIL NEED YOUR SUPPORT! SEE MESSAGE BELOW;
π§βπππ Volunteers needed to help with Leith Academy Christmas Concert 18 December πππ§βπ
The school has asked parents to help make the Christmas Concert on 18 December a real community event. Itβs one of the highlights of the school year and we want as many people involved as possible.
The parent council is looking for volunteers to organise a raffle or other fundraising for the concert, and to run a mince pie, hot chocolate and goodies stall on the night.
Please let us know if you are able to either organise/plan the raffle and stall or help on the evening email leithparentcouncil@gmail.com.
Also pupils and staff are making table decorations for the concert and are looking for donations of glass bottles and jars. If you have old wine or other sorts of glass containers like jars, please hand them in to the school office. Please make sure they are clean, in a bag or other container, and ideally parents to hand them in rather than pupils.
Islamophobia Support for Families – This November we are promoting Islamophobia Awareness Month and invite you to join us as we learn about Islamophobia and bring together our Muslim and non-Muslim communities at Leith Academy;

Leithers at Water of Leith β Our Senior Geographers were out sampling and working towards their course work on the water in freezing conditions! A great shot of them in action this week.
Hoping you have a nice weekend.
