Welcome back to all of our young people and Families. For our new S1 Families, this is our weekly update with useful information and any news from our young people.
It has been a very positive first week back, also very hot! Some key points below;
Parent Council – The first meeting of the Leith Academy Parent Council is on Thursday 28 August at 7pm in the school staff room (enter side door, corridor next to school office at front of building). This is a chance to hear from the Headteacher and other Parents about issues affecting the school. To receive occasional important email updates, Parents and Carers need to sign up to the Parent Council database. Could all new S1 Parents or Carers who are interested in being added to our list please come along on 28 August and sign up on the night, or email leithparentcouncil@gmail.com
LGBT+ Gold Charter – We were pleased to receive notification that the work we do in our School to support all young people is recognised by gaining Gold Charter. This is not an overnight process, it is a culmination of perspectives, views, training and support that we try to put into action every day. We are one of only a few Schools in the City / Country to have this recognition which is a great achievement. Well done Ben Stewart for leading on this but also to all Pupils, Parents and Partners who contribute to our ethos.
Breakfast Café – We run this every morning in our Home Economics Dept from 7.45am-8.20am and it is free. Youngsters can come and get breakfast and socialise before they start their learning period 1.
After School Clubs – These are beginning to become available and staff will use the Bulletin (emailed twice per week to Families) to share details. Our Sports Fayre is next week where we encourage all young people to join a club linked to improving their Health & Well Being.
Sports Coaching / Personal Trainer – Aidan our Active Schools Co-ordinator is offering a great opportunity to youngsters interested in a path linked to sports coaching or PT. See details in poster or speak with him for information;
Mindroom – See poster for information on support for children and Parents linked to neurodiversity;
Visit from China – We are the Mandarin Hub School for Edinburgh and we have a partner School in China, Tianjin Number 1 School; we last visited in 2019. We welcomed pupils and staff visiting today who were from Shizuishan High School, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in China.
They had a fantastic time in our school with the company of our pupils giving them a tour! They really appreciate this cultural and educational experience. Thanks to Wei for leading this, see picture attached.

Hoping you have a good weekend from all at Leith Academy.
