As we enter the final week before the October holiday it has been busy across a range of areas once again. See below for important updates and announcements;

S4,5,6 Track 1 Reports – These are being sent to Families today, with a covering letter to help explain some of the terms, we are unable to change certain aspects as they are controlled by the Council (all Schools use the same reporting platform). Please have a discussion at home about the report, and if you have any questions email the school on Admin@leith.edin.sch and we will direct your email to the colleague who can help.

S1 Settling in Eve for Parents – This is on Thursday starting at 4.30pm. Mr Stewart has sent an email to S1 Families linked to this. It is always a very positive evening and nice to see our S1 Families coming in for the first time to hear about the progress their child is making.

Amnesty International – This week we had a stall in our café area taking questions and raising awareness of the work being done by a local group which feeds into our School work linked to Rights Respecting Schools.

Dyslexia Week – This week was an awareness raising week to support the great work our neurodivergent learners do every day. Ms Mordaunt created a video with staff and learners ‘myth busting’. Video is here  https://clickv.ie/w/GJw3

Heart start – As a school we all took part in the National Heart start work, this was important to raise awareness and help bystanders who witness a person in distress or cardiac arrest provide support and potentially life saving help.

Linked to this we will be putting ALL S5 Pupils through a First Aid course in late October. Details to follow next week.

S3 Session next week – We have been invited by Places for People to a session with Graeme Armstrong Graeme Armstrong (author) – Wikipedia, the internationally recognised Author on some of societies challenges affecting young people and their communities.

We hope to deliver an important session to all S3’s on Tuesday afternoon, in School, which will include themes linked to making good choices, keeping yourself safe and reflecting on some of societies current challenges. If Parents have any questions please email Admin@leith.edin.sch.uk and we will support.

European Week of Languages Quiz – Well done to all who took part last week, the results for House points are;

1st Cowan 2nd Anderson 3rd Barton and 4th Port – Well done to all.

They put forward the work we do to support Families in keeping School days free for all where possible. Thanks to Ms McConnell for leading the trip.

Trip – Hong Kong – On Tuesday two of our Seniors, Finn Sheldon and Joe Stott are off to Hong Kong as part of a City Wide trip involving youngsters from across 7 Schools in Edinburgh, this is a great cultural opportunity and we hope they have a great time and feedback on return. Places for the 2026 trip will be released soon!

Danish visitors – Thanks to Mr Robinson and all who helped in Home Ec, PE and further afield. We had approx. 40 Danish visitors and staff who spent a morning in School learning about the Scottish education system, then we had a Scottish dance, haggis and irn bru. Culminating in a superb example of Scottish culture.

Sports Ambassadors – See message from Aidan, our Active Sports co-ordinator;

Congratulations to Rosie Hopley & Alex McClay on representing Leith at the Sport Scotland Young Ambassador conference at Meggetland this week. Rosie and Alex have been chosen to be sport ambassadors this year for not only their dedication to their own sport but for their leadership and encouragement to every pupil within Leith, within their role they’ll help promote and encourage pupils at Leith to join in with our fantastic sports programs!

Family learning – We held a support session for some Families to help them navigate Digital Learning with their child. Thanks to Sian for putting this session on and offering this support to Families who need it.
