Wishing you all a Happy New Year as we enter 2020 at Leith Academy. We’ve had a very positive first week back with Pupils, Staff and Partners energised and ready to deliver improved outcomes for the young people of Leith.
Time will go quickly with only 4 weeks today until the Feb half-term. This is an especially busy time as Seniors take their feedback and plan next steps following prelims and our S2’s, S3’s, S4/5 all enter the course choice process as they plan ahead for 20/21.
Some key points below to keep you up to date…
S2 into S3 Choice begins
We all want to work together with our youngsters in S2 to support them as they enter the choice process within their learning for the first time. To help this we have a number of inputs / events including a presentation to Parents (details will be sent to S2 Parents) and a Parents’ eve for S2 on 23rd Jan 2020.
These events coupled with the S2 tracking report should help you plan as a Family the next steps your child wants / hopes to take.
After Lunch Text to Parents starts Monday
You will have received a message informing you of steps we are taking within our attendance monitoring. At present we send an automated text home if a pupil is ‘tbc’ (as in not present….to be confirmed) when they should be in class.
This text service will now be extended into period 5 after the youngsters return from lunch. If there are any attendance anomalies following lunch, we will send a text home to Parents.
This is a new process for us all but we hope it provides further support in monitoring and improving attendance of all young people in School.
S6 Gathering
With 12 working weeks left of School, we met with the S6 this morning to keep them clear on our aspirations and expectations of them. They were switched on well as we covered;
Attendance – it’s crucial they are here every hour!
Study periods used well – making sure they plan past papers to do
Talk to us (Teachers) around next steps
Monitor your part time work balance – p/t work is great but don’t take your eye off the ball regarding the ‘work’ we need to do at School
Have a nice weekend.
