It’s Victoria Day weekend in Edinburgh so Monday is a holiday. There are some national exams still going ahead on Monday so please check if this applies to your S4,5,6 child / learner.

We will see everyone else on Tuesday morning for an 8.30am start in Leith Academy uniform, ready to learn. If you need support with ensuring your child is in uniform please contact the school on Admin@leith.edin.sch.uk for support.

Anne Frank exhibition – We are 1 week into our moving and powerful exhibition. A super group of pupils have been trained to deliver the guided tours we do for classes over the course of the exhibition. So not only do children learn about the moving story, but many also develop their skills of communicating, using body language and tone whilst improving their confidence.

S3 Assessments – As our Seniors continue to press on with SQA National Assessments, our entire S3 year group were involved in a literacy / English and numeracy / Maths assessment earlier this week to help establish levels of work and to help them familiarise themselves with the hall set up, which is commonly used nationally. I am pleased to report our S3’s handled the situation in a very mature way, in Leith uniform and ready to learn. Feedback will come to them over the coming weeks once marking is complete.

S1 Parents’ Eve – The online instructions have been emailed to families for 23rd May next week. If you need support please email us on Admin@leith.edin.sch.uk . We look forward to providing some supportive feedback on our S1’s and their progress so far.

Parent Council AGM – Please note a date change to Wednesday 5th June as opposed to Thursday 6th June. This is always a nice evening as we reflect on the year gone by and consider the 24/25 year to come. Details from Parent Council to follow.

Wizard of OZ – Our School Show plans are well underway, part of which is our branding, ticket sales, multi media campaigns. Well done to Daisy Booth in S2 who has created this super piece of Art which will be used as the main poster / billboard campaign!

Tickets on sale soon.

Support for Parents – See a flyer that came in from Respect Me, an organisation we and other schools work with to support awareness raising of anti-bullying and active bystander work. Details on the flyer.

International Day – Today (Friday) is International day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. As a school this work links into our wider work of equalities, anti-discrimination and our values of Respect and Diversity. We shared some material across lessons today to help raise awareness further of our ongoing work.

Spring Fling 2024 – A truly fantastic show last night with performances from all the corners of our brilliantly diverse school community. Huge thanks all the staff involved across staging, rehearsing, branding, ticketing, lighting and more. The performances included James Bond theme tune, Oasis, Stereophonics, Ed Sheerin, The Beatles and more – which were all fantastic. A great example of the mighty Leith community in action!

Hoping you have a nice weekend from all at Leith Academy.
