Sports and Activities – Rugby

Rugby info: At Leith Academy we offer rugby for Boys and Girls during PE time and as an extra curricular activity. We have a number of teams at the school. We have U14’s & U16’s Boys and Girls teams who play on a weekly basis against teams in Edinburgh, Lothian’s and the borders. Boy’s rugby is on Monday’s afterschool 15:15-16:45 and Girls rugby is on Wednesday’s afterschool 15:15-16:45, all abilities are welcome. We plan rugby trips to Edinburgh Rugby games once a month and we get lots of playing opportunities throughout the season from weekly fixtures, playing at BT Murrayfield and representing the school at the Portabello beach games.

We also get some special guests to come and take training sessions throughout the season. This season we were joined by Scotland and Edinburgh captain Stuart McInally and Scotland and Edinburgh player Blair Kinghorn.

We have a new Strength and Conditioning area in the PE department. The S3 and S4 pupils get an opportunity to gain an extra qualification during PE time. The course we run is called the Aspiring Performers Programme, the aim of the course is to introduce the pupils to strength and power training programmes, help them improve there rugby skill set and also learn how to review performance and look into nutrition in sport.
