After a very busy week with so many positive things happening, we reach the half term break. See blow for important points and updates linked to news and achievements;
Skills Week – A brilliant week of events linked to skills and various jobs from IT, Roofing, Construction and Lifesaving. This was followed up by a morning of S4 mock interviews to further help young adults consider their own skills and the areas they need to work on. Thanks to Mr Fox and all colleagues who supported this.

Mental Health Day 2025 – Our young leaders organised and set up a ‘well being walk about’ today. Every day we support young people and each other with our mental health but today was a chance to shine a light on that work across the country. Thanks to Mrs Dewar and our pupil leaders who pulled this together.

First Aid course – We will be putting all S5 through the SQA lev6 First Aid at Work course when we return from half term. A separate email has been sent to S5 Families and we will speak to S5 on return from the break.
New Friday lunch offer at canteen – The catering team across all Edinburgh Schools will now be serving lunch on a Friday as a pilot. See details below from catering;
We are launching our new high school menu after the October break! We are starting a ‘grab and go’ lunch service model for Friday afternoons so that pupils can get the benefit of a full lunch as they leave the school.
We will use a pre-order system – pupils place their order at break time. Pupils can collect at the end of the school day as they leave from our cafeterias as more a grab and go service with their bags of food items ready.

Inclusion Ambassadors – As part of our commitment to pupil voice, we have young people taking forward ideas to help improve inclusion across Leith Academy. Last week they were at a City wide meeting, thanks to Ms Mordaunt for leading this;
‘A huge well done to our Inclusion Ambassadors, Jamie Aitken, Indae McLellan, Milo Ross and James Smith who took part in a Bowling activity/Meeting this week alongside ambassadors from three other Schools across Edinburgh. The work these young people are doing is incredibly important and will undoubtedly help shape meaningful improvements for the future. We are proud to see them representing the school with such thoughtfulness and commitment.’
P7 visit – Our Modern Languages dept had some P7’s up to learn languages and experience the Academy last week. We have a great offer from a range of depts and faculties which helps make the transition positive for our new S1’s.
Trip – Our longstanding partnership with DWF Law is underway with a new group who have been developing skills in presenting, interviewing, communicating and leading. Our group for this year were at DWF HQ this week and had a great experience in the world of work.
Disability awareness – Today we started a round of assemblies linked to disability awareness led by Mr Gallacher and Guide Dogs Scotland, this links well with our values of respect whilst ensuring our young people understand the role of mobility / buddy / guide dogs and other ways to support more hidden disability. You can donate here Guide Dogs Scotland | Guide Dogs
Leith Helping Leith Give Away – We are preparing this year’s event to help our Families of the Leith Community. We will gladly receive donations after the October break. Erik Silva Scottish cap – We were delighted to hear that Erik has been selected for the Scottish U19 American Football Team. A great achievement that requires perseverance and dedication for sure.
