As we reach the half term break it has been a busy time with assessments, course choice, reports (to name a few aspects) to help gauge progress and ongoing discussions with young people and their families about best next steps. Thanks for your help at home with these conversations and the sharing of messages / support.

Key points;

Parents – I have a request for your help, we work hard each day (despite covid) to try and support young people across the school, this can take shape in many different ways. Your feedback helps me to take stock of where we are, and speak with my teams on our next steps. If possible, could you please take some time to complete this questionnaire? I hope it is a positive experience! Thank you, the link is here https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/edinpie/

Parents – Uniform – Thank you for the ongoing work on this. All pupils should come to school in their school uniform, bring PE kit in their bag. Please ensure this for the return on 21 Feb;

  • Leith tie, white shirt, black trousers / skirt, a black jumper if needed, black footwear
  • Additional layers can be worn through the colder months as we keep ventilating where possible

Course choice / pathways – We will continue to work through the important conversations of course choice when we return. Our website has information which can help discussions at home around what subjects work well for each youngster. Updates to follow on return.

Careers bulletin – Our latest bulletin which may be useful for discussions at home can be found here.

Please see a message from the Council on Family Holiday payments;

School Holiday payments & Scottish Child Bridging Payments – The Scottish Government funds additional payments for families with an income-based eligibility to Free School Meals. They are free school meals payments during school holidays and Scottish Child Bridging Payments.

If you have applied for and been awarded free school meals and a clothing grant, payment will be made automatically using the payment details we currently hold for you. You do not need to make a separate application for these payments.

If your bank details change, you must tell us immediately using our contact form. Both payments are made just before a school holiday, except the February mid-term break where only a holiday payment is made.

Payments for each holiday will be

  • October mid-term break – paid on 11 October 2021
  • Christmas holiday – paid on 6 December 2021
  • February mid-term break – to be paid by 18 February 2022 (holiday payment only – no bridging payment)
  • Easter holiday – to be paid by 8 April 2022
  • Summer holiday – to be paid by 1 July 2022.

And finally, a couple of good news stories –

Luke Gardner – has been selected for Scottish U18 Basketball

Zak Griffiths – has been selected for Scottish U18 Rugby

Great achievements for both young men.

We’re at the Feb half term, great work getting to this point and supporting the youngsters throughout. The coverings update has come yesterday and we’ll see how that transpires. Our first week back is coverings on as normal.

Have a great half term break from all at Leith Academy.
