The final full week of 2020 in Schools is complete and although it has certainly not felt the same as usual there have been some festive events.

Some key points below;

Christmas themes

We have been involved in leading, organising and delivering food parcels to various community hubs to show our support for families in our local community who may face challenges during this time of year. Thanks to the S3 Achieve group for this work.

Our Christmas dress themed day last Friday raised approx. £400 which is fantastic and will be put towards charitable / school themes. Thank you for supporting this in different ways.

Covid – ‘Make a note’

Pupils have spent time during their periods on Thurs and Fri making a note of who they are sitting within 2m of in class, we hope these are not needed over the Christmas break but it is important to have them ready. This will continue into Monday and Tuesday – if numbers in class are lower then pupils can be separated therefore removing the need for a note to be created for that period, Teachers will guide classes here. Thank you for supporting this.

Deep Clean Fogging

We are due to have our next fogging session on Monday after school. This is in line with our monthly fogging as part of the Covid infection control steps taken by all schools in Edinburgh.

YPI

Our Youth Philanthropy Initiative Final was held this week, as ever it was a great demonstration from our S3 pupils of creative thinking, planning, working together and presenting. All within themes / charities that work to help impact people in society in a positive way. The charity winning a cheque for £3000 this year was the Joshua Nolan Foundation https://www.joshuanolanfoundation.org/  following a well-researched, powerful presentation from the S3 Team. All presentations were very well delivered and as ever it was a hard decision for the panel.

Next week / next year

Next week is clearly a very short week. On Tuesday pupils will begin to be dismissed from 11.50am through to 12 midday.

Pupils return to School on Wednesday January 6th at 8.30am.

There shall be a final brief update on Tuesday to thank our pupils and families for their efforts in helping us navigate this challenging time and to wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Have a nice weekend from all at Leith Academy.
