Thank you to all of us involved with Leith Academy for making the first week as positive as possible. There is no denying the adjustment and planning required in having nearly 1000 pupils and 120 staff returning. We hope rest and relax is on your radar this weekend.

Though we continue to travel out of restrictions, it is vital we continue to treat the pandemic with respect and take the steps we have in place in School around masks, hands, 2m where possible, one ways, wipe downs, use of exit points and having our break and lunch outdoors. Our Pupils have been great in this aspect, thank you to the ongoing supportive discussions you are having at home, it helps a great deal.

Some key points;

Next week – Our plan for next week is the same as this week;

  • Staggered times are attached, please arrive for that time to prevent unnecessary gathering
  • Break and lunch outside to help provide fresh air breaks
  • All usual steps in place linked to masks, hands, 2m where poss, wipe down
  • Please continue to self-test at Home and record results

Easter Revision – thanks to all staff who were able to deliver a strong program of support to over 200 pupils during week 1 of the Easter break. Hopefully this was of benefit and was another example of finding solutions to help youngsters throughout the pandemic.

Restrictions – The First Minister has confirmed the next round of easing restrictions for next Monday. This will hopefully have a positive knock on to some of the activities we can do in School, such as after school clubs, indoor PE and swimming. We await finer details over next week and will keep you all updated.

SQA Assessments – we are continuing to work and plan alongside the National guidelines from SQA. Our ‘Assessment window 2’ begins on Wed 5th . Class Teachers will continue to keep young adults informed of preparations and progress steps they can make. Ms Watson will also hold online Teams updates for Pupils and Families to help ‘talk you through’ this new process for us all. This will be an evening early next week, details to follow.

There is information from SQA on the Alternative Certification Model on their site here https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/70972.html .

Fire drill – Today period 4 we had our fire drill for term 3. It is a legal requirement to go through this once per term. Any planned work will be rescheduled, as ever our Pupils handled it in a mature and calm way.

We hope you have a nice weekend from all at Leith Academy.
