We enter the half term break after a challenging 6 weeks of home learning and for the most part, staying at home to enable the pandemic numbers to come down to a safe level. We all hope efforts now will result in a more positive spring / summer 2021.
Key points;
First Minister update – main points that came from Tuesday;
- Young people up to Primary 3 can return to school from Feb 22nd if progress continues as hoped
- In Secondary, there may be some opportunity for small numbers of pupils in S4-6 to come in and complete practical based work which cannot be done at home (as in it needs specialised equipment). We are working continuously on plans and clarity of what this will actually look like – there will be more detailed info on our return from the half term. At no point can we have more than 8% of the school roll in the building, so clearly this intervention is aimed at very low numbers linked to infection control
Mental Health Week, LGBT History Month start, Language Week Scotland
Well done on the joint effort to pull this work together using our online presence and profiles through Twitter and our website. It certainly generated some interest and raised awareness of the importance of this work, clearly linked to our values of RESPECT DIVERSITY HONESTY and FAIRNESS.
Virtual Careers Fayre
Normally school would be a busy market place with our business links and partners offering guidance, support and next step plans for young people in their chosen area. Like everything, we have put plans together to run this virtually and Mr Stewart has emailed Parents directly with information on this. We look forward to our normal format in Feb 2022!
S3 into S4 / Senior Phase info eve for Parents
We will run this evening online using a link that Parents simply click. It is on Feb 25th with a 6.30pm start time. A link will be sent to S3 Parents nearer the time.
S3 Parents’ Eve
Linked to above, our S3 Parents’ Eve online is on the 10th March. Start to have conversations with your young adults around the subjects and steps they want to consider moving forward. Our website contains some useful info here https://leithacademy.uk/pupils/s5-6-handbook/ on courses and next steps. Parents will be sent a link in due course for the Parents’ Eve.
Report writing
Ms Watson and other school Depute Head Teachers are making positive progress steps in trying to find a work around way of writing reports from home and pulling this info together safely and securely in a way that can be sent to each household. We will keep you updated after the break.
Tuesday morning assembly
On our return, Tuesday 16th Feb, Mr Irving will lead a live assembly as we head towards Easter. An invite email will be SENT TO PUPILS SCHOOL EMAIL on Monday 15th which they can accept.
S1-S2 will be at 8.30am
S3-S4 will be at 8.45am
S5-S6 will be at 9am
