Dear Parents, Pupils and Families,

We hope you are having an enjoyable summer break as we enter the final few days before our return for pupils next Wed 18th August.

We will keep in touch over the coming days with any updates as Schools continue to plan for the return within the current pandemic picture. We are hopeful, and planning for a more settled year for all in Schools, here
are some key points below which Parents may find useful for now;

Face Coverings etc – Scottish Govt has informed all Secondary Schools that these should remain in place to help keep other as safe from transmission as possible. We will continue to have hand sanitisers at each entry / exit point and in every classroom, these should be used as per last year. Pupil:Adult will continue to work where possible with a 2m distance as the vaccination program progresses through the younger adult population.

Home testing – This is critical to preventing outbreaks, as we know. Please complete a home test kit and record results before you return to school. We will support our new S1’s with consent form completion and issue of kits when they arrive next week. Info on taking a home test kit can be found here Coronavirus (COVID-19): How to do a rapid lateral flow device (LFD) test at home | NHS inform

Uniform – We are pleased to now be in a position to take mitigating steps in our PE changing rooms, this therefore allows us to move back to our simple uniform expectation;

S1-S6

·      Leith Academy dark blue tie (Max Yarns Duke St or from School while stocks last)

·      White shirt

·      Black trousers / skirt

·     Black footwear (comfortable)

·      Black plain jumper / cardigan (if required in colder months)

·      All items can be bought from any store, the only specific item is the Leith tie, we hope this helps Parents

·      PE kit – Bring in your bag comfortable clothing for sport, no inappropriate logos, messaging or team affiliated strips please. Changing rooms are now back in use with mitigation steps in place.

Arrangements for Wednesday 18 August – Pupil Return:  To help pupils, especially our new entrants into day 1, please see the following plan to help stagger the first day;

-S1 and S2 arrive 8.30am (S1 will be met by S6 Buddies. S2 go to Key Adult as normal)
-S3 and S4 arrive 11am and go to period 3,4,5,6
-S5 and S6 arrive 12midday and got to period 4,5,6

From Thursday all arrive for Key Adult (School will communicate any staggered times / entry points linked to Covid-19
infection control plans as needed).

Breaks and Lunch – Scottish |Govt has advised all schools to ‘avoid large gatherings’ as the vaccination program progresses through younger adults over the coming months. The canteen will be open for youngsters to use, then we will ask pupils to have a walk or find some space outside with their friends (weather allowing, though please bring a
jacket if forecast predicts).

S1 – For the weeks up until the September weekend, all S1 remain in School for lunch to familiarise themselves
with café, the cashless payment system and the school ethos. Those who wish to go home for lunch can do so if this is pre arranged with the family.

As ever our community of Leith is well catered for lunchtime, S2-S6 pupils heading out for lunch should follow national guidelines on wearing a covering / hand san as they represent their Family and School in our community.

SQA – certificates and emails have now been delivered to our Senior Phase pupils and well done to all for demonstrating their learning through challenging circumstances.

Letter from Council – A letter to all Parents from the Council is due to be issued over the coming days, we felt
however that the points above would be of help to Parents in getting prepared for the School return.

We will update further on our website / twitter / email where needed. If you have any questions please email Admin@leith.edin.sch.uk
.

We look forward to seeing our young Leithers arriving next week for session 21/22!
