As we enter December, another busy week at Leith Academy. Some important points below;

Covid – The Omicron situation continues to develop. From our end nothing changes, but we would like us all (Home, School) to reinforce our key steps of

-hand hygiene

-coverings

-2m where we can adult;child

-talk to youngsters about the important of LFD testing and recording

Back to basics assembly – As we enter the last 10 days of term 1, it is an important time to refresh and remind our youngsters of the basics we can do every day. Please see an assembly from Mr Irving which was shared with pupils today. Please watch and discuss at home https://clickv.ie/w/cHRr  as we hope this provides simple, clear updates for families.

Assessment window 1 – is almost complete. The marking and most importantly the feedback will begin to help pupils take positive next steps. We will have a second assessment window to help in Feb, details to come in the new year.

Edinburgh Council – We have a new Director of Education, Amanda Hatton. Amanda has written to all staff and families, letter attached.

End Violence Against Women – We are working with our pupils and across our community to raise awareness of, and support, this cause. Please see the link for more information and there will be updates over the coming days next week https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day

Police message – Please be aware there are false emails / texts targeting young people into sharing bank details to pay for a ‘Covid passport’. Could a message please be shared via the school newsletter to make families aware that the NHS do not ask for payment for anything attributed to Covid19 and any requests will be a scam.

Secondary School Meal survey – Please complete the survey from Edinburgh Council based on school café / meals to help implement changes where needed. The survey can be accessed here .

Edinburgh Council jobs – The Council is recruiting in certain areas, see attached for more information if interested.

Barton – Amahn Kasbia, Aarzu Javed

Cowan – Sandra Strzelecka

Port – Ire Arowolo

They will be working on our House boards with updates and themes over the coming weeks to share.

School Show – Congratulations to our cast of over 70 youngsters who are now in the preparations phase of planning, directing, rehearsing with the Creative Team as we head towards the Summer performance. House points were awarded.
