So many things happening these last few weeks, I have tried to capture a blend of updates and important info alongside sharing some of the wider opportunities our young people get to experience. All vital as part of their learning.

Updates below;

New term dates – CEC have released the term dates for the future years, to help personal and family planning.

Sports Day 2026 – Another outstanding event at Murrayfield with great participation and spectators. The weather played well for us, the results going to overall House points were;

1st Barton 2nd Cowan 3rd Port 4th Anderson

Parent Council request – Recently the Parent Council has discussed community funds that could be applied for to support the school, and indeed what things the school might have on its ‘wish list’. Leith Chooses remains a great option if parents wanted to take an idea forward with the School, The process opens in August each year. Get in touch with Parent Council via Leithparentcouncil@gmail.com if you have questions or suggestions and we can collate.

Activities in our community – As we approach the Summer break, see attached a list of activities and contact details. A great opportunity to try something new or spend time with friends / family.

Cashback Summer Courses Program – Cashback offers a great first steps to meet like-minded young people, learn new skills, improve physical and mental health, build confidence, and form friendships through creative engagement.

 Led by a Creative Lead and a Wellbeing and Opportunities Worker, over the course of 5 weeks week, the groups will experiment in a whole range of art forms and enjoy some trips to galleries and museums, exploring themes of heritage. Where possible, we will support young people to gain a level 3 or 4 SQA unit. At the end of the 5 weeks, we host a celebration event to showcase all their amazing works.

 This is a free course, all materials, food and public transport costs are provided.

Girls Volleyball Tournament – Last week Mr Irvine (PE) took 7 third year students to a volleyball festival at Queensferry HS on Friday. It was the girls first experience of playing outside of school and they did great alongside some very strong Queensferry and James Gillespies teams. Well done all.

China Immersion Trip – We have an excited delegate group heading to China, see info below.

Next month in July, 13 of our senior pupils and two staff will be travelling to China to take part in the 2026 China Summer Camp organised by the Scotland Confucius Institute. They will join around 100 pupils from schools across Scotland for a two‑week cultural and educational programme. We wish them a wonderful trip — and every success as they take on the Great Wall of China!

Global Youth Summit – We had a group of youngsters involved in this important area of the future for young people. See update from Faye McCandless, S3, attached / below.

Water / Swim safety – As we enter this time of year, see letter around water safety.

YPI National Event 2026 @ Perth Concert Hall – Five of our S4 pupils enjoyed a fantastic day at the YPI National Event in Perth on Wednesday. They watched presentations from schools across Scotland and heard from a range of guest speakers. A highlight of the day was a brilliant performance by Nathan Evans and St. Phnx, who sang Scotland’s official World Cup song along with a few other songs, and had the whole hall up dancing! Our pupils were outstanding ambassadors for the school throughout the event, demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm, and a real sense of pride. Good job everyone! Mr McKee, RMPS

Creative writing – The Creative Writing and Poetry class recently attended the Children’s Festival “Imaginate” at the Scottish Storytelling centre at the start of June. They enjoyed a short play that focused on the themes of bullying, homophobia and friendship and had the opportunity to ask the actors questions about the play and their performances after the curtain went down. They were great ambassadors for Leith and I was so proud of how they represented the school. They demonstrated that they could ask thoughtful questions and were curious about how the whole production had been put together. They will now use the play as a stimulus for a piece of writing. Ms Mollon, Head of English.

Rugby tour 2026 – On Sunday our S1/2/3 Boys went on tour up north to play Ross Sutherland in Invergordon. It was a couple of tough games but the boys persevered to play some excellent rugby and create some very memorable moments! They’re post game social of ‘silly shirts’ was fantastic and they complemented the custom bucket hats very well. We then stayed overnight at Cairngorm Youth Hostel on the banks of Loch Morlich where the boys enjoyed games on the beach, swimming in the loch, dinner, and a pool tournament. They all had an incredible time and definitely made memories for life. Aidan Morrice and the Coaches.

As we enter the final few weeks and Scotland’s World Cup campaign begins, hoping you have a good weekend.
